Dinner for Eight
Building relationships one meal at a time. Around the table, we hear each other’s stories, we make connections, and we build unity.
What is Dinner for Eight?
Dinner for Eight is a great way to meet new people and build relationships within your church family. Group members connect at the hosts’ homes to connect over a meal in a relaxed and casual atmosphere. The emphasis is on fun and fellowship.
Who cooks the meals?
It's potluck! Usually, the host will provide the main dish and the beverage and coordinate with the other participants to bring sides such as salad/rolls and veggie/dessert. Potluck dinners are a good way to simplify meal planning and distribute costs. Hosts may consider picking a dinner "theme night" (i.e. Italian night, backyard barbeque, soup night, etc.), and everyone can bring a dish that goes along with that theme.
I’d host, but don’t have space in my home.
If you’re willing to do all the “host” work of coordinating your group, planning the meal, and taking the lead, but don’t necessarily have the space in your home, The Hub is always an option!
How does a dinner for Eight group work?
After you’ve registered, you’ll be assigned to a group. Once groups have been arranged and members have been notified, hosts will connect with group members. With group input, the host coordinates the date, time, and food sign-ups. Please alert the host to any dietary needs so they can be made known to the group (dairy/gluten-free, etc.).
What about families with children?
Parents are encouraged to bring their children! However, this is something groups can decide as well. Some groups may be full of kids, while other groups may just be parents wanting to enjoy an evening as a couple.
What is Dinners for 8?
As Dinner for Eight groups are formed, our goal will be to put people together so that each group has six adults. Since part of the fun of D8 is meeting new people, efforts are made to avoid assigning small group friends or people who regularly serve together to the same D8 group. Groups are intentionally generationally mixed.
